Grave Phantoms A Roaring Twenties Novel Jenn Bennett Books
I adored the romance between Bo and Astrid, but the paranormal plot was simple and a filler. The story of a forbidden romance is what grabbed me in this book. The love the two felt for each other was palpable and that is why the book got four stars. The paranormal part was a thinly veiled plot device. I was disappointed in the Aztec/Pirate storyline. Considering Bo is Asian and San Francisco played such a heavy role in the previous books I expected more of the culture of China Town and Bo's world. As a paranormal romance it only gets two stars. But the cultural divide and what the two lovers face because of the era makes it worth the read.Tags : Amazon.com: Grave Phantoms (A Roaring Twenties Novel) (9780425280768): Jenn Bennett: Books,Jenn Bennett,Grave Phantoms (A Roaring Twenties Novel),Berkley,0425280764,Romance - Paranormal,Chinese Americans;Fiction.,Historical fiction,Historical fiction.,Love stories,Man-woman relationships,Nineteen twenties,Paranormal fiction,Paranormal romance stories,Paranormal romance stories.,San Francisco (Calif.),Visions,Women - Psychic ability,AMERICAN LIGHT ROMANTIC FICTION,AMERICAN SCIENCE FICTION AND FANTASY,FICTION Mystery & Detective Women Sleuths,FICTION Romance Historical General,FICTION Romance Paranormal General,Fiction,Fiction - Romance,Fiction-Romance,FictionMystery & Detective - Women Sleuths,FictionRomance - Historical - General,General Adult,MASS MARKET,Monograph Series, any,Romance,Romance - Paranormal - General,RomanceGeneral,United States, romance; paranormal romance; historical romance; urban fantasy; romantic suspense; suspense; ghosts; magic; supernatural; vampires; witches; mystery; mystery books; crime books; romance novels; fiction; mysteries; fiction books; romance books; murder mystery books; mystery and thrillers; mystery thriller suspense; mysteries and thrillers; cozy mysteries women sleuths series; detective novels; mystery novels; mystery and suspense; historical romance books; women sleuths; women sleuths mysteries; female sleuths mysteries, romance;paranormal romance;mystery;romance novels;love;romance books;historical romance;mystery books;ghost;crime books;police;mystery and thrillers;murder mystery books;mystery and suspense;women sleuths;detective novels;mystery novels;fiction;novels;mysteries;fiction books;mysteries and thrillers;cozy mysteries women sleuths series;books fiction;books mystery;women sleuths mysteries;romance novel;mystery thriller suspense;romantic novels;historical romance books;romance book;paranormal;fantasy
Grave Phantoms A Roaring Twenties Novel Jenn Bennett Books Reviews
I enjoyed this book. I like how the characters from the two previous books are included in the story. It wasn't my favorite of the three but it was a quick read.
A fun, easy read. Not as interesting as the previous books in this series. The mystical elements were a little dull, and the romance took more of the center stage than the previous books.
Nicely layered around two characters that have much going against their relationship. The paranormal element is interesting laid out. It would be helpful to read the first two books but you wouldn't be totally lost.
This series dealing with aspects of the super natural in the 1920's is compelling and fascinating. The characters are well developed and the story is mesmerizing to the point that even non believers disbelief is suspended while reading this book.
The book wasn't bad, but I didn't enjoy nearly as much as the first two. The chemistry between the two protagonists was lukewarm, and the supernatural element more annoying than compelling. We've had glimpses of the two main characters--and their obvious attraction & affection--throughout the 1st two books in the series, but it felt as though all of the conflict & turmoil should have been resolved in a short story. Stretching it into a full-length novel was just that--a stretch, and not an entirely comfortable one.
I enjoyed this third entry in the series. Each story had a very different paranormal happening, very well thought out. Also some very hot moments in each of the books!
Another fabulous installment in this paranormal visit to the Roaring Twenties in San Francisco.
I so enjoyed the heroine, who grows from the discontented daughter of a wealthy boot-legging family into a strong woman, willing to give up her lifestyle for the man she loves.
The hero is Chinese-American, and in those days, Caucasians and Chinese weren't allowed to marry in California. He struggles against his feelings for the heroine, and does his best to keep her safe from not only the dastardly villains but from himself.
Luckily for us, and her, he fails at the last! Love wins against all odds.
